Teaching and Climbing

Saturday, February 14, 2004

Arranged last night at the Wall to take Shane out for a days climbing. Steve Tree phoned in the morning and asked if anyone was climbing. To my surprise, he seemed interested in coming out with us and doing easy stuff with me and Shane.

Shane needs to do easy stuff so thet he can learn to place gear properly.

At Steve's suggestion, we went to Boiler Slab. Good suggestion.

Shane led "Classic" and Steve patiently belayed while Shane took his time placing all the gear that he could.

Steve then led "Direct" and Shane and I followed. Then Steve led "Ayesha" and then Shane led "Pinnacle Crack".

Steve was very encouraging and told Shane his gear had been very good. Shane certainly seems switched on!

Well done Steve! Not everyone wants to come out and teach someone new to climbing. Some climbers I know would sulk the whole day if they had to stand around and watch others.

Natural teacher is Steve!
