Black Hole Crag Daily

This crag has long since fallen out of fashion. We went there a few years ago and Gwyn climbed the V groove in the centre of the crag. I also made a topo and uploaded it, together with some action shots to the Wiki.

Longhole Cliff? Daily
Friday, September 20, 2024

Two night ago we went out to this cliff thinking it was a forgotten crag.

Once we got there I realised this was probably what is known in the 2003 guide as Longhole Cliff. Poor access details and odd route descriptions. No wonder no one had found it!

Anyway, Gwyn had a fall when part of the route he was on collapsed. Chipped bone in the leg and now out of action for six weeks.

Still... lovely weather.

Out with Luca Daily
Tuesday, August 8, 2023

Spent the day with Luca wandering around the museums in the city. It must be 20 years since I spent so much time in Swansea.

The photo is of the Helwick Sands lightship. I took Fritz there over 30 years ago when we could get on the boat and look around. Nowadays the public are no longer allowed on it. It seems to be rusting away.

Some better pictures and more info here:- Helwick Lightship.

O Levels Daily
Saturday, July 15, 2023

Last Friday I drove up to Brecon and Hay on Wye.

I stopped for a look at what used to be Glasbury Outdoor Centre. It's still an outdoor centre but it no longer belongs to Redbridge. The grounds look well-kept but there is now a pizza restaurant in the grounds!

This phone box is now some sort of village 'book-swap' place.

In 1976 it is from where I phoned home and learned of my 'O' level results. I remember being rather pleased and somewhat astonished.

*NOTE ADDED* I was surprised that the phone box wasn't where I remembered it. 1976 was a long time ago and I thought I must be mistaken. Looked up some old Ordnance Survey maps and found that the phone used to a half-mile further up the road. Maybe it has been moved.

On the longest day I went for a late evening walk.

Saw this for the first time on this part of Gower.

When this plant dies the stem becomes woody and it's said that the dried stem makes an excellent fire drill. I have one at home drying in the porch.

I tend to take a lot of photogaphs. By chance (mostly) some turn out quite well.

I realise to get good shots on my camera I really need to wait for nice conditions. Mostly, I can't be bothered.

This one one was just luck.

Here's one that turned out well.

Out as far as The Knave yesterday.

If you look closely you can see surfers resting-up below the Tooth Fairy and climbers over on Third Sister Lower.

Third Sister Bottom Daily
Friday, May 5, 2023

Began this topo 4 years ago (or so).

It would normally be an awkward crag to photograph but, with 'Hugin', I was able to stitch together around 20 shots to get what we have here. It's turned out well.

The full-size topo is 6,377 x 2,363 pixels.

It can be seen on this page. Third Sister. (Click on the image to be offered the image at high resolutions).

The Wiki now has a YouTube channel.

You can find it here: SWCW YouTube Channel

There's not much in it at the moment and, currently, none of the content is supplied by me. It's convenient because it's a way of off-loading bandwidth and storage space.

Out Walking Again Daily
Tuesday, May 2, 2023

Over the long weekend I've been out walking on Gower again.

The coast path was very busy with walkers and the newly bolted sports routes seemed very popular with climbers.

The weather wasn't too bad. Saturday warm and sunny. Monday less so.
