Scramble

Thursday, January 17, 2013

After I smashed my knee in a rock-climbing fall some years ago, I began to do my own physio-therapy.

Rock-climbing was out - I had virtually no strength in my left leg - and running was impossible. I began, two or three times a week to scramble around the rocks on the western side of Three Cliffs Bay, Gower.

At first I had to go very carefully indeed. My weakness meant that I could be rather unsteady in my movement and a fall would mean falling 40 feet or so onto rocks. It helped me concentrate.

All this helped the knee a great deal. It gradually became stronger but, just as important, it got me out of the house into a somewhat wild and remote place. When the tide was in I could feel quite alone. I often went there after work and I suppose I must have avergaed 4 times a week in the first couple of years.

Here's a picture I took from the rocks on what we named, "The Scramble".

Of course, sometimes it's much nicer weather. Other times it is a lot worse.

Kim suggested I publish details of the "Scramble" on the wiki, but I really don't want it to become popular and share it with everyone. Only a few friends know about it.

But here it is. I've made a Google Map of it...
