It was looking very wet and in the end only 4 of us turned up. American John, his Kiwi friend and Gwyn. I'd announced that Crab Island Crag would be the venue. Usually, we never announce the venue beforehand because it is largely dependant on who turns up and what they wish to do. Gwyn and I arrived first and set off because John had phone telling us that he and Nick would be late. Problem. The tide was in further than I'd anticipated and the "Step-Across" rock was almost submerged. We roped up for an abseil and climb. Just then John and Nick joined us. The two of them watched as Gwyn and I abbed off and set up an anchor. I think this was Gwyn's idea of a joke. While he climbed I continued to get splashed as the tide continued to rise. We lowered the other two off and they climbed up. Nick appeared to really enjoy it! Then we were all lowered to climb the VS in the corner. Didn't feel like a VS. Huge jugs and massive foot holds. Packed up and retired to the Joiners!
