I expect that few of you will know that there exists a computer operating system called OpenBSD. Well, if you haven't you may be surprised to know that it is a very good operating system and that I use it on two of my machines at home. Namely my newsserver and DNS server, and also my firewall cum webserver. The OS comes packed with security features not found in operating systems outside of government/military organisations. It is very stable and like most unices, understandable from the ground up (it comes with source code). It is developed by a small band of hobbyists and enthusiasts from around the world headed by one Theo de Raadt. It does everything I ask of it (and lots more I'm sure) very well indeed and I am very happy with it. The equivalent Micro$oft platform based product would cost me thousands of pounds and almost certainly wouldn't be as stable and as well set out. So... where can you get this operating system and how much is it? Well... it's free and can be downloaded from the website.
