I attempted to walk across Fairwood Common thinking it would be relatively dry. In winter, of course, it's just a bog. Even so, I put my wellies on.

As in the photo above, it started off ok, but ot became boggier and boggier and even the wellingtons weren't up to the task.

Not wishing to completely retrace my steps I headed off for a road some 600m away. I had to pick my way carefully around swamp, bog and standing water.

I think it'll be next August before I try doing this again!
