A bright start to the day led us to believe that the rock rock would soo be dry. In fact it clouded over and we didn't hold out too much hope for non-greasy conditions. Collected Tom at around 11.00am and drove off. Matt telelphoned and said he would meet us at Dinas Rock. Tom and I inspected the 5a. Horribly greasy! In fact it looked awful. It's steep but with large holds... even so... The 6A looked better but I told Tom that Gary and I had breezed it and so we settled for something harder. A 6B. Bouldering around to warm up first we discovered the rock to be "awkward". When Matt turned up we decided to explore a while longer while we got up courage. Went up to Kennelgarth wall and looked (rather optimistically) at the climbs. Settled for a 7A. Since there was little chance of a top-rope, we decided to lead it. Quite safe really since none of us got more than a few feet off the ground!! Still... interesting!! Moved after this back to the 6A. Matt led it but looked shaky. Came off at the crux and then didn't do it properly. Hmmm... greasy perhaps? Tom had a go. Tom had similar problems. I would have felt quite chuffed if the conditions had been good, but as one of the footholds was seeping and quite unusable it wasn't the same climb. A bloke wandered up to us from the path. Shane was his name. Interested in becoming a member. Lent him my harness and chalk bag. He attempted it. No luck either. Packed up. Went to the pub. Different one the time. "The Old White Horse". Much better pub! Long chat. Later on that evening met up with Matt at the Joiners. Couldn't have a weekend and NOT go to the Joiners could I?
