Out this evening to Thurba Head (and back). Nothing much to see except a few ravens and a buzzard. Also hordes of sixth formers doing their Duke of Edinbugh. I think I'll start charging for my map reading services! I may have posted this photo before but La Meije is topical at the moment. I took this from the summit of the Grande Ruine in 2001. Pic Nord des Cavales is the "small" pyramid shaped peak bottom left. These two peaks had been our "warm-up" peaks for that trip. We did them three days apart but could have done them two days apart if we'd have been a bit more organised. The Pave Hut (near Cavales) was quite basic but very cosy. The Adele Planchard Hut (below the Grande Ruine) was quite comfortable and within a short walk from it there were tremendous views.
