Over the past week or so we've seen summer start to slip away and autumn take its place. Sometimes during this transition you get a scent of how autumn should be; it feels colder, the air smells different, the wind drops and the visibility increases. There's something about it that feels nice after the almost continual warmth and sun. A few years back we would have taken the opportunity of climbing at Barland Quarry. The cold would help the friction. However, we now seem to have just started the autumn cycle of storms. The first one is here now. It's not particularly windy but there's plenty of rain. Makes doing anything outside pretty uncomfortable. Thing is, over the next few months the storms are going to become more frequent. The Met office has a new Mountain Weather Page. Let's hope for a cold winter.
