Met Shane at 09:00 for a days climbing. Thought we'd start off with a couple of routes at the quarry and then head to Tor Bay where Shane could hopefully lead something. He did well yesterday and I hoped that he'd still be buzzing from it. Well, I put him on the 6A+ to start and he couldn't even get started. He seemed to lack confidence and we wondered if he still had his Trad head on from yesterday. Anyhow he couldn't do it and even leading the 5+, he moved badly and didn't look like a climber. We cut our losses and headed for the beach where we thought the bright sunshine may make a difference. The tide was in and I suggested Shane lead Curving Crack. Well, I thinkit was wrong of me to suggest it. He struggled badly and I had to lower him off a ouple of times. I think sometimes you just have an off day in wich case it is probably better to drop your grade rather than risk further dents to your confidence. Poor Shane! Tom turned up and so we did a little top-roping. Joiners afterwards...!
