When Dingo asked me if I wanted to do an overnight walk over the Beacons I thought he was joking. He wasn't. The rationale: it's going to be a clear night and the mountains will look beautiful in the snow, starlight and moonlight. Ok, so the moon was about 25% but the stars should provide enough light! Sent a text around to a few people. Responses were, "Are you mad?" (Frank). "Can't make it tonight!" (Steve Tree). "I'm working tomorrow" (Kim). "I'm oop North" (Newcastle Dave). "I'm in Scotland" (Matt). "Ok, then" (Tom). Packed a light rucsac (including my new headtorch) and collected Dave and Tom. Drove up to a reservoir and walked up Cribin from the South. Very easy walk despite some deep drifts of snow. At the car, the temperature was about 0 degrees. At the top it was very still but a little colder, about minus 4. The top was in cloud however and as we descended and lost the cloud it became considerably cooler.

We had More Snow Than This!

We decided to cut short the walk. The only view we had was from our headtorches. Still, had a nice "picnic" on the top. Took a few photographs. Well worthwhile. If only the night had been cloudless and moonlit. Arrived back home at about 03:30.
