Had planned to go out yesterday with Steve Tree but on phoning him in the morning he sounded none to keen. He complained that it seemed to cold. It was nippy and so we left it. This afternoon I became frustrated and bored. At 14:30 I decided to make a "crow flies" walk to "The Joiners". Took about 1.5 hours and involved me getting rather wet (it was pouring with rain) and very muddy. It's amazing what you come across when you take a straight line course cross-country! By the time I arrived in Bishopston, it was absolutely buckets! The road was flooded and I must have been (to put it mildly) rather disheveled! When I entered The Joiners some wag asked me if it was raining outside! Had three pints and a read of the SWMC S.E. Wales Guidebook which just happened to be in my rucksack. I noticed that the floor underneath me was rather wet. In fact, it looked like a mini lake... !! Fiddled with my phone and sent Sara a text just to see if she can receive them in NZ. The walk back home was started at about 18:00 and involved battling wind and rain on Fairwood Common. Walking alone of course and in the pitch black with only my headtorch. The mobile went. A text. From Sara in NZ. It was quite a surreal moment. Getting a text from Sara in sunny NZ whilst she was probably eating her breakfast. Odd. I'm not used to all this modern technology... I still get amazed by it.
