Collected Stealth from work today. he wanted to go to Tor Gro again
and check out the far slab.
Frank was away on Pen-Y-Fan (again). This time with Jane and he had
promised to carry a 20 Kg sack. I told him to fill it with "luxury
items" so as to impress Jane. You see, women would not be impressed
by someone carrying weights up a mountain. They
would be impressed by bottles of wine, comfy
mattresses, caviar, picnic hampers. Anyway... you get the idea...!
I told Frank that if he did so, then he could forget climbing on
Sunday as he'd surely be be tired out! (If you see what I mean!)
Anyway... things didn't start off well. Both Stealth and I forgot our
boots. We had only our "flip-flop" sandals. Not the best thing for
"bush-whacking"!
The climb to the foot of the far-left slab proed impossible. Stealth
showed off a bit by falling 15 foot down the muddy face, only stopping
himself when he grabbed a tree trunk.
Eventually we topped out, jumped a barbed wire fence and worked our
way over to the top ofthe slab.
It didn't look promising. In fact it didn't look interesting at all.
I abseiled down and pussicked back up. Stealth didn't bother.
Now... we jumped back over the barbed wire fence again and began
working our way back through the fields to where we hoped to find the
top of Marsh Dance.
Problem! Stealth thought it was a BIG problem. The next field that
we had to cross was occupied by some rather excited Bullocks.
"Oooooer! I don't like the look of them", he said.
"No worries... I'm used to 'em", I replied.
I armed myself with a stick and proceeded to clout the boldest one
straight on the nose!
"Awwww... that's cruel", said Stealth!
"Duh"!
No doubt Stealth would have been a little more upset had the bullock
made Stealth his "cow"!!
The farmer appeared. We had a chat. It seems that all the rocks are
indeed owned by "Awful" Alford... the farmer with the shotgun!
Anyway... we finally managed to ab down the slab and raced off to The
Joiners.
Stealth managed to drink half a pint of beer and half a pint of coke!
Tut-tut!
Frank and Jane didn't turn up... probably lugging the luxury items
paid off...! I wonder if Frank has enough energy left to climb
tomorrow!
