OK... so today was supposed to be the beginning of our Alps training. Two hours at 'The Quarry' followed by lunch at 'The Joiners' followed by a quick session at Three Cliffs followed by a scramble from Three Cliff's Bay all the way to East Ridge on Great Tor. Followed possibly by Franks ascent of Innocent Savagery if we had time. Frank was due to meet Jane for an evening meal sometime. We were a little behind schedule by the time we got to the pub. Had a nice lunch. Jane (Frank's g/f) arrived and announced that since she and Frank had been going out for exactly one year, she had bought him a present. He unwrapped it. I was a lovely rock-climbing helmet. One of these super light-weight ones. Very nice!
Jane is off to Turkey for a two week holiday tomorrow and it was obvious to use that Jane wanted Frank for the evening. I watched Frank and saw the anguish on his face caused by this dilemma. Bod, Llio and I went to Three Cliffs. Jane and Frank arrived later. Bod led Scavenger. Frank missed out on the scramble and froliced with Jane on the beach. We saw them from the scramble and shouted at them to restrain their passions. At the foot of the ridge. Frank joined us. He was concerened. He didn't say but I suspected that he was calculating just how long it would take to finish the route, get back to Morriston, get a change of clothing and meet Jane for the romantic meal. "Let's do each pitch with one rope", said Frank. "But there are four of us", said someone. "That's ok, we'll chuck the rope down". So, that's what we did. However things were still slow. Halfway up we abandoned the route and headed back to the cars. At the car park. Now 20:45, Frank tried to telephone Jane. "She's not answering", he said. Frank looked concerned. "Then you'll just have to come to the pub with us", said Bod. Andy was clearly doubtful. "Try my phone", I said. Still no reply. At the pub my phone rang. "Hello?" I answered. "Who is it", said a quiet voice. "Aha... here, speak to Andy". Andy disappeared with my phone. He came back. "Oooh she's in a real mood with me". The rest of the evening was spent discussing Frank's plan of action. Llio suggested strawberries and champagne. Bod said that petrol stations don't stock them and since it was 22:30, nothing else will be open. "You're gonna have to cancel climbing tommorow Frank", I said. He nodded. "I should be ok after about five" Jane's leaving for Turkey before then, he said. As we all left I shouted over to Frank and Bod, "Frank give me a shout tomorrow... when you are free".
